Meet Preview: Region 4 Cross Country Championships

Port Aransas boys pose for photos after winning the 2020 UIL 2A boys XC team championship

Class 2A

The top time coming into the regional meet belongs to Eleana Campos (Freer) at 12:15. She almost has 30 second over the next best runner, but with six girls running in the 12:40s, she will have a host of girls chasing her.

If weather conditions don't have a factor, Campos could have smooth sailing time for the win. That would be a big jump from last year's 28th place run in the 14s.

Mason and Shiner should be in for quite the race day. The separation between the two teams could be so slight. What's new, only seven points separated them last year.

Abraham Morales (Brackett) and Antonio Martinez (Louise) are the top two returners from last year. Morales has the top time of 15:59 going into Monday and Martinez has the region's other sub 17-minute time of 16:41.

We are used to San Saba qualifying for state, but that's on the girls side. The boys have their shot of doing it this year with their 18:31 team average.

Port Aransas is trying to defend their state championship and to do that, they have to ensure they get passed the regional round. They have an 18:44 average and can still get the team regional win.

The remaining qualifying spots will be a toss up between Harper, Santa Maria, Agua Dulce, Mason, and Brackett.
