TAPPS Cross Country State Meet Preview

TAPPS 6A Preview

TAPPS 6A Girls

There are a lot of girls back from last year's state meet including defending state champion Alyssa Menendez (San Antonio Antonian).

The top push for Menendez should come from two girls who were not top-10 finishers last year in Amanda Hogan (Dallas Ursuline Academy) and Leah Klenke (Houston St. Agnes).

Klenke went off last year at the state track meet in the distance events and Hogan has been doing much of the same this cross country season.

Klenke has a 11:20 time on the season, McCarly Holloman (Midland Christian) at 11:24, and Micaela Villarreal (San Antonio Antonian) 11:39 are all sub 12-minute girls this season and should challenge.

However, Hogan has been on another level this season; she has a 10:55 SB in two miles and three sub 18-minute 5Ks this year including a TAPPS leading 17:43. Hogan should be considered the favorite tomorrow.

2021 TAPPS 6A Boys Rankings

If there is anything more exciting than the girls 6A race on Monday, then I'd be surprised.

Antonian would love nothing more than to win another title and go back-to-back with last year's win, they have the talent to do it..

Then there is Houston St. Agnes who would like to start another title streak and they have the talent to do it.

However, Dallas Ursuline has been consistently strong all year long and they have what it takes to pull of their first team win in several years.

All three teams have legit number one runners and low sticks. They also have tight splits between their 2-5 runners.

This will surely be a fun one to watch!!!

TAPPS 6A Boys

This could be anybody's race. Nathan Morales (San Antonio Central Catholic) has the fastest mark on the board with his 15:45 from the FEAST meet. His teammate Robert Trevino also has a sub 16-minute run with his 15:57 at the SCUC Cross Country Invitational.

Ben Tijerina (San Antonio Antonian) checks in with a 16:07 and a win at the tough Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.

Last year's third place finisher Bryceson Bass (Midland Christian) is back this year as well.

2021 TAPPS 6A Boys Rankings

We'll be watching to see if Antonian can repeat last year's success and state championship. They have a great team and if they get a big day from the five spot, they could be celebrating once again.

Central Catholic was third last year and will try to climb up the awards podium by winning it all. They will be hard to beat as they have solid runners at the 3-5 spots to go along with Morales and Trevino.

Houston St. Thomas and El Paso Cathedral were third and fourth last year respectively, but they have been running well all season long this year and will make it a tough day for the two San Antonio schools.
