Emma Sralla Throws TX No. 2 All-Time 185-0 In Discus

Emma Sralla of Lewisville Marcus knew coming into the UIL 6A -District 5-6A that this was another step on the path to the Texas UIL 6A state championships.

Last year, she finished second in the shot put and third in the discus at the state meet. She is now on a one track path to trying to get a state title or two this year. One of those chances is in the discus throw and the likelihood is increasing.

This weekend at the area meet, Sralla upped the ante with just a single throw. The junior popped a mega toss of 185-0 feet. Not only was that huge in terms of her development because it was 15 feet better than her 170-8, but it was also enormous because it was better than any Texas high school girl to ever throw a discus other than one.

The Marcus throws genius now sits No. 2 on the all-time discus list in Texas behind only Shelbi Vaughan of Mansfield Legacy. Vaughan threw 198-09 in 2012 to sit at the top of the throne in the event.

"It's what I train for I guess, but it's still really cool when it happens."

Sralla has more motivation to continue pressing in the throws events. "I'm just trying to set up good for Worlds (U20 World Championships) in August," she said. Winning at the state meet is just the beginning of what Sralla wants to accomplish, "It would mean the world to me to win state, but bigger things are to come for sure," Sralla added.

She already earned international competition experience when competed for Sweden in the European Athletic U20 Championships last summer where she finished 11th. That time is coming, but the task at hand now is to get to the state meet and throwing far is just a part of the plan. Sralla said, "It's what I train for I guess, but it's still really cool when it happens."
