Since 2014, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has presented the High School Coach of the Year award for each state and a national award.

Per the USTFCCCA, state-by-state winners are selected based on their teams' performances throughout the 2022 outdoor track & field season. Among the factors taken into consideration are team score and placement at the state championships, margin of victory, performance against rankings if available, individual championships, and how their teams' performances stacked up to previous years (e.g. first title in school history, consecutive titles, etc.).

Since 2014, five coaches have won multiple COY awards (Lloyd Banks - 2015 & 2019, Juris Green - 2017 & 2019 (T&F) and 2015 & 2018 (XC), June Villers 2016 & 2019, Justin Leonard - 2014, 2019, & 2020), and Andrew Cook - 2020 & 2021) three coaches have won National Coach of the Year honors (Shelton Ervin -2021, June Villers - 2019, and Juris Green - 2017).

We know coaches have a lot to deal with other than just coaching at their state meets. Coordinating, training, managing, and sometimes even counseling. It is also common knowledge that successful head coaches hire successful and good assistant coaches.

In the next couple of pages are some coaches we believe could be in the running for this year's girls Coach of the Year for the Texas 2022 track and field season.
