It's going down on the campus of the University of Oregon. The NSAF Outdoor Nationals began yesterday with some track and field events as well as the multi events.

There are an unreal amount of Texas athletes who are competing this weekend and we saw the beginning of the meet affected by Lone Star athletes.

Franco Parra (San Antonio TMI) prevailed in the boys 5,00m to get the winning started for the state. Parra who had been stalking the leaders the entire race was doing his most dangerous running on the final two laps. He ran the fastest last half mile thanks to a 1:00.9 final lap to get the win in 14:32.68.

Austin Vandegrift junior Kevin Sanchez led the majority of the race between laps three and four through the final lap would finish fourth overall in 14:35.59. San Antonio distance runners Marcelo Parra (San Antonio TMI) and Tate Underwood (San Antonio Johnson) were also key proponents to this race. Marcelo finished seventh (14:37)and Underwood was eighth (14:50) to place four Texas boys in the top 10.

Cameron Antoine (Pearland) had a good start to day one in the decathlon as he finished with 3,549 points for first place. He ran 11.40 in the 100m, jumped 21-10.25 in the long jump, threw 38-7.50 in the shot put, in the him jump he went 6-0, and ended the day running 50.41 in the 400m.

More Texas star power was on display throughout the day in the emerging elite events, freshman, and middle school events. Today will surely provide more outstanding track and field competition at the NSAF Outdoor Championships.
