Last year, Jaikeem Mitchell could see his AAU Junior Olympic national championship in his grasp. He had been blazing through the qualifying rounds and the preliminaries at the Junior Olympic Games.

The Duncanville Tigers sprinter came up just short of winning the 8-under division with his 13.77 runner-up finish to Chael Williams (USG) and his 13.69 time in the finals. He was runner-up in the 200m to Williams as well.

So far this year, Mitchell is back on path chasing that national sprint title. He currently has the fastest 100m qualifying time in the 9 year old age group. At the AAU Region 18 Qualifier, he ran 13.15 in the prelims and then followed it up with his 13.25 into a -1.9 head wind.

In the 200m, Mitchell won the regional title in 27.23 and has a 26.94 national leading time heading out to Greensboro, North Carolina.
