Week 2 is underway in El Paso, and after rain showers overnight, left a humid and muddy Saturday morning at the Canutillo Invitational.
The morning's first race was the Varsity Girls race, in which sophomore Adelynn Rodriguez of Eastwood won with a time of 19:33.45. Senior Kassandra Jimenez from Montwood was not too far behind running a time of 19:54.12. Canutillo's own Natalie Rivera came in third with a time of 20:41.99. Mia Hairston a freshman from Montwood placed fourth, running a time of 20:54.84.
Varsity Boys raced afterward and this was an exciting one. San Elizario's Christopher Moreno secured his second win in a row running a time of 16:31.09. Alexander Flores, a junior from Eastwood was closely behind clocking in with a time of 16:31.36.
The JV Girls division was again won by San Elizario's duo of Katelyn Montoya, who ran a 23:22.05, and Kylee Pardo, who ran a 23:31.80. Nahlur Gurrola, senior, of Eastwood ran a 23:54.39 to secure third place.
JV Boys was next and the top three places all belonged to Eastwood. Aidan Torres, a sophomore, ran an 18:09.28 to win the race. Second place belonged to senior Julian Miramontes who ran a time of 18:32.24. Junior, Sean Herrera, placed third running a time of 19:11.50.
