The infamous Marcus I Invitational was renamed after the team's infamous coach, Coach Steve Telaneus. Coach T, as he was affectionately known by most passed away a little over two years ago and the meet was named in his honor.
Prior to his death in 2020, Coach T had already experienced death. In 2015, MileSplit did a short film on Coach T's experience and how he refused to call it quits. After rehab and working to get back to where he could coach again, he was right back at doing what he loved to do -- what we loved him for doing and how he did it.
That season, the Marcus girls cross country team was in the hunt for a UIL state title, something they hadn't accomplished in 13 years prior. The team's journey was an inspiration to all and their purpose was to bring a title back to their leader and their own inspiration, Coach T.
Watch this film, and as this weekend brings another Coach T Invitational, remember the man that meant so much to the youth, a sport, a community, a state, and to a profession. This weekend, I hope some of you will remember him as some of us simply can't forget him.
