San Juanita Leal (Edinburg North) competes in the 1,600m at the 2022 UIL 6A state track and field meet

Last week, San Juanita Leal opened up her 2023 track and field season; she did it with runs of 2:13 and 5:01. The Edinburg North junior is coming off a cross country season where she won her first UIL state meet medal with her fourth place finish at the 6A state meet. She went on to compete in the national championships.
This track season, we could witness Leal improve on her fourth and fifth place finishes at the state track meet in the 1,600m and 3,200m. She is already in a good place to surpass her PRs from last track season when she ran 4:53.85 and 10:51.71. She already eclipsed her 2:17.30 from last year last weekend.
