Thursday morning we wrote how explosive the boys 110 meter hurdles would be at the Summer Creek Generations Park Invitational. The athletes did not let us down. The top three (no wind indicator reading) hurdlers in the state so far this season of No. 1 Donovan (DJ) Bradley, No. 2 Arveyon Davis, and No. 3 Mason Dossett were facing off at Humble Summer Creek High School and two of the three came away with personal bests in the event. Two of them, Bradley and Davis were medalists at the UIL State Track and Field Championships last season in the 110 meter hurdle event.

Through the first two hurdles, the talented trio was even, but coming off of the third hurdle, Bradley and Dossett had created a little separation and by the fourth hurdle, Bradley was clearly hitting the ground first with his trail leg. Dossett wasn't backing down as he kept pace with the UIL 6A state runner-up.

In the end, Bradley would come away with the win at his home school meet by running 13.41 and the Fort Bend ISD boys would finish second and third with Dossett in second in 13.51 and Davis third in 13.68. The wind reading was +3.9, so it wasn't a wind legal recording, but all three clearly look like forces to deal with this season.

Bradley lowered the state leading NWI performance and Dossett improved his time holding onto his No. 3 ranking and Davis holds steady at No. 2. The three will meet again in two weeks at the Victor Lopez Classic on the campus of Rice University.

The boys 300 meter hurdles was just as exciting as the 110 meter hurdles race was. Bradley and Davis were at it again with Bradley entering with the state's No. 1 mark and Davis checking in at No. 4. Dossett ran the open 100m and did not race the longer hurdles, but that doesn't minimize the match up as the Summer Creek hurdle crew has proven to be one of the state's best producing programs just as Fort Bend Marshall has done.

That is where Bulldog senior Victor Kanu enters the conversation. Kanu was in the 110 meter hurdle event and finished fourth behind the top ranked trio when he ran 14.63, however, his strength is the longer event. He is the tenth ranked hurdler in the event with his 38.30 SB and he backed it up and held his own running another impressive race at 38.32 to finish third.

Bradley had the best Texas boys mark in the event of 37.12 before this race. Last week, at the 13th Annual Seven Lakes Relays, he ran that time, which is the second best mark of his career. He ran another fast time last night by going 37.24, which would have been the second best time in the state behind his own.

Davis, who was disappointed with his 110 meter hurdle race had motivation to come back for his second race. After the gun, the first two hurdles were nearly even between Bradley and Davis, but Davis's steps were a little off on hurdles three and four. With the top ranked 300 meter hurdler behind him applying pressure, Davis showed composure and didn't falter. Despite hitting hurdle five, he had a slight lead when Bradley went high over the fifth hurdle.

That was the only daylight he would get the rest of the race as Bradley would not let up. The composure paid off for Davis as he held off one of the best runners between the hurdles in the state with a solid run over the last 100m for the win. The time indicated the vindication Davis was looking for after the 110 meter hurdles. He finished with a 36.96 for a PR and most importantly a state leading mark.
