Taytum Goodman Was Really Good Taking Down Three 1A Records

1A Girls 800m

The defending silver medalist Makayla Bowman a senior from Aquilla was in lane 3 and the defending gold medalist a senior from Earth Springlake Taytum Goodman looking to repeat in 2023. Goodman also had the fastest qualifying time coming in with a 2:15.21 which is under the conference record that she set here last year at the 2022 UIL State Meet.

It was a great start to the 800m run. Bowman came off the turn in the lead but Goodman quickly took over and showed her dominance with a 30 sec first 200.

Increasing her lead and coming through at the bell lap with a 1:05 90 she was looking to make some noise. Bowman 1:13.70 and Sydney Partin, a senior from Priddy 1:14.63 second and third respectively. Those three separated from the rest of the group and never looked back.

Tatum broke her own conference record from last year's state meet with a 2:16.29 and captured the gold, Bowman came across in second place for the silver with a time of 2:20.83 and Partin for the bronze with a 2:22.01.

1A Girls 1600m

This was going to be another one to watch since Taytum Goodman, a junior from Earth Springlake was going to put on a clinic. Of course, she had the fastest time from regionals with a time of 5:04.03. She'd already captured the gold and the 1A state record in the 3200m and the 800m and was looking for her third gold medal and third 1A state record. Sydney Partin from Priddy was wearing hip 9 and was your reigning silver medal winner.

Goodman took off like a rocket and took a commanding lead. Through the first 400, she crossed with a time of 1:13.47, Ummi Chanez a senior from Marfa crossed in second with a 1:18.90 and Daylee Chisum a junior from Jayton came across with a 1:19.31.

It was basically Goodman and the rest of the pack, she kept the impressive lead and was chasing another state record. She crossed at the halfway point with an effortless 2:34.16, Chanez was still hanging onto second with a 2:45.49 and Partin came across in third at 2:45.78.

Goodman only increased her lead and then there were six in the chase pack running together to see who would capture the silver and bronze.

Goodman came across at 3:53.28 at the bell lap and made a major surge to seal the deal. Lilly Benson, a sophomore from Roby moved into second and Kaylee Bezio, a senior from Graford was in third.

Goodman broke another record and fell to the ground in relief of her day being over. She then got up like nothing big happened and just walked off like it was no big deal that she had just won her third gold medal and broke her third 1A state record. It was the sixth track and field record that she's broken in three years. Thank goodness we have another year to witness more of her greatness!
