Arguably, the best uncommitted recruit in the class of 2024 entering this school year, Adam Burlison does not appear to be running cross country for his high school this season. He is instead playing football for Amarillo High School as the team's place kicker/kickoff specialist.

Although yet to compete for the Amarillo High School cross country team, he has lined up for a race already this year and plans to run again in the near future. On September 15, 2023, Burlison was entered in the Texas Tech Open 8K. He began the race, but was a DNF.

Burlison's current focus appears to be playing football. He divulged to MileSplit that he is still training to run this cross country season. He plans to compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational 8K race on the University of Wisconsin Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.

Following that race, Burlison disclosed that he will prepare to race at the Nike South Regional with hopes to qualify for NXN and then race at the U20 USATF Cross Country Championships with hopes to qualify for the U20 World Athletics Championships in Bathurst, Australia.

Last year, Adam Burlison ran himself to becoming a house hold name to the everyday high school cross country fan. He was the 2022 Texas UIL 5A Cross Country State Championships runner-up, led his Grapevine team to another team state championships, and then won the Nike South Regional Championships to qualify to NXN.

In the outdoor track and field championships, he won the Texas UIL 5A 1600m and 3200m by going 4:08 and 8:54. He ran 14:28 at the Texas Distance Festival Elite Boys 5K and in the post season he ran 4:03 at the RunningLane Track Championships one mile.

Starting his high school career at Coronado High School in his hometown of Lubbock, he transferred to Grapevine last year when his father accepted a new football coaching position there. Burlison transferred again for this school year, heading back to the Texas Panhandle to Amarillo for more professional opportunities
