Sebastian Talamantez (Comstock) got out to an early lead with Jose Ventura (Lasara) in the UIL 1A boys race. The two quickly created a 30 meter gap on the rest of the field going through the one mile marker that saw Christian Gonzalez (Sulphur Bluff) and Ryker Haivala (Cumby Miller Grove) leading the chase pack.

The two would continue to separate, but prior to reaching the two mile, it was Talamantez opening up a gap on Ventura, who was last year's state meet's top returning finisher.

However, nearing 1K to go Haivala would begin to make up some ground as he moved past Ventura.

The Comstock sophomore would get the 16:25.10 win exactly two seconds ahead of with Haivala's 16:27.10.

The team race was just as close.

Slidell and Jayton were swapping positions all throughout the race. Jayton's number one came through and Slidell's firs two passed the Jayton number two runners. The Jayton two and three runners then came across with both team's four runners crossing the finish line back-to-back creating a watch for the fifth runner.

Slidell's fifth runner was the 23rd scoring runner with Jayton's five was 30 creating a slim 73 < 78 margin. 

Both teams turned in a 17:54 average, but Slidell ran a 46 second split to cap off an outstanding race.

Talamantez's Comstock squad backed him up and his low stick score to get on the podium for third place.
