Workout Wednesday with Allen T&F and Jonathan Simms
Reigning and defending UIL 6A 400m champion Jonathan Simms (Allen) get back to the track this weekend, competing in his first outdoor meet of the season at the University of North Texas Relays.
A specific event to note is that Simms will be competing in the 800m for the first time this season. In fact, it will be the first 800m race of Simms' UIL high school career.
He has raced in the event throughout his youth career racking up many youth age group records and even running a 1:51.69 personal record last August at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
Also last summer, the Allen junior ran a 45.12 in the 400m to become the Texas all-time leader in the event, the fastest 16-year old ever, and the US No. 10 all-time performer.
Simms is also entered in the 200m and 400m this weekend.
In January, during the indoor season, he tested his fitness at the Oklahoma HS Indoor where he competed in the 60m running 6.97 and 6.81 as well as 47.60 in the 400m. Simms also ran 1:18.22 in the 600m at the 116th Millrose Games.
