In sports, the difference between winning and losing can be miniscule. The UIL 4A boys long jump is a perfect example of that trope. Frisco Panther Creek sophomore Jalen Lott went into his sixth attempt sitting in fifth place, but he uncorked a jump of 22-9.25 which moved him all the way to the top of the charts.
Lott had to sweat out the final four jumps of the competition. Stafford's Bradley Lowman jumped 22-9 on his first jump of the competition, went 22-8.5 on his third attempt and then went 22-9 again on his last jump into a -2.2 wind, the worst of the entire competition. Brownwood's Ike Hall also posted a mark of 22-9 on his first jump and went over 22-feet on three other attempts, but never further. Lowman finished with the silver medal while Hall took home the bronze medal.
The win for Lott came after he cleared 6-4 in the high jump in the morning to grab a fifth-place finish. Lott's sister, Falyn, matched him by winning the UIL 4A girls long jump at the same time.
