Jackson Bragg clears a bar at the 2024 UIL 4A pole vault
The pole vault is a fickle event. Last year, Salado's Jackson Bragg did not get past the District level even though he had previously been a UIL 4A State finalist in 2022.
This year, he made the most of his final opportunity and he will leave Austin with a new meet record. Bragg entered the competition at 15-0, won the meet with his clearance at 15-6 and then proceeded to go over 16-0 and 16-4.75 to set a new State meet record.
On the other side of things, the defending State champion, Brayden Hill of Burnet, did not clear his opening height of 14-6 which opened up a spot on the medal stand.
Hill's teammate, Brady Rygaard, cleared 15-0 to nab the silver medal after tying for sixth place in 2023. Pleasanton's Preston Pilgrim joined Bragg and Rygaard on the medal stand with a 15-0 clearance as well. Both Rygaard and Pilgrim cleared 15-0 on their third attempts.
