Flemings, Hill Repeat as State Champs in Hurdles

3A Girls 100m Hurdles

Yierra Flemings, a senior from Cameron Yoe was last year's champion and Abby Elmore a senior from Gunter was the silver medalist in 2023 and both were back in this race. Elmore had the fastest time from regionals coming in with a time of 14.42.

Going over the second hurdle first was Flemings who looked in control and then Elmore took the lead over the next two hurdles.

In the last three hurdles, they were running stride for stride adding to the excitement of the race. In the end, Flemings pulled out the win with a better lean with a time of 13:98. 

Elmore captured the silver with a time of 14:03 and Brooke Munoz, a senior from New Waverly finished in third place with a time of 14:56.


3A Girls 300m Hurdles

The fastest time this year coming in was a 43.86 from lane 6 Kyla Hill, a senior from Goliad and she was also the gold medalist from 2023 hoping for a repeat. The reigning silver medalist was Abby Elmore, a senior from Gunter. Ashley Wood, a junior from Goliad was the bronze medalist in 2023.

Clean start was declared with Hill cleared the hurdles first each time and easily glided over every hurdle looking like the winner she has been this year and defended her gold medal and set a new meet record with a time of 41:04, Gwyn Burnett, a senior from Llano tried to keep it close but finished in second place with a time of 43.51 and Elmore captured the bronze medal with a time of 43.96.
