UIL 4A Boys 110m Hurdles

Swayde Griffin of Lago Vista and Jasiah Rivera of Kingsville King were the only two returners from last year's meet and this year the duo took the top two spots in the 110mH.

Griffin got out to a great start while Rivera was a half-step behind at the start. Rivera was able to run everyone else in the field down but could not get by Griffin who finished with an outstanding final two hurdles. Griffin posted a time of 13.74 and Rivera came through at 13.84. Stafford's Bradley Lowman was the third member of the group to break 14 seconds with his time of 13.90.

Griffin and Rivera finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively last year with Griffin out-leaning Rivera by a hundredth of a second. The finish held true again in 2024 for the juniors.

UIL 4A Boys 300m Hurdles

Hunter Kunkel of Bellville and Ryan McMeen of Aubrey were the only returners from the 2023 UIL 4A Boys 300mH final and they both ran well, but it was Kingsville King's Jasiah Rivera who stole the show. Rivera took the lead by the third hurdle and held off McMeen through the last few hurdles to win in 37.12.

McMeen and Kunkel each moved up from non-medal stand positions a year ago to a spot on the stand this year. McMeen took the silver medal with a time of 37.28 while Kunkel passed two runners late on the inside to nab third place in a time of 38.47.

The victory gave Rivera his first State title and goes nicely with his runner-up finish in the 110mH earlier in the meet.
