UIL 5A Girls 100m Hurdles

Kaylah Braxton of Frisco Heritage was the quickest out of the blocks and never looked back on her way to a second straight UIL 5A State title in the 100mH. Braxton was never seriously threatened and crossed the line in 13.83.

The race for second place was extremely tight with three runners crossing the line within 0.04 seconds of each other. Denton Ryan's Kailyn Head took the silver medal with a time of 14.09 while Layni Kaase of College Station grabbed the bronze in 14.10. Kelis Jules of Frisco Lone Star was left in fourth place despite running 14.13.

For Braxton and Head it was a repeat of last year's 1-2 finish but neither ran as fast as in 2023 due to a crosswind that was slightly into them.

5A Girls 300m Hurdles

Kailyn Head of Denton Ryan took the silver medal in the 100mH, but she would settle for nothing less than gold in the UIL 5A Girls 300mH. She ran a beautiful race and ran a big personal best time of 41.20 in the victory and appeared to have more in the tank at the finish.

Head knocked off the defending State champion, Laila Payne of Carnegie Vanguard who finished in second place with a time of 42.17. College Station's Layni Kaase picked up her second bronze medal of the meet in the hurdle events with a finish of 43.46.

Head finished in fifth place and Kaase in sixth place in 2023.
