This year's 1A Boys 3200-meter run featured three new athletes on the podium.
Nearly 40-seconds off his time from the regional meet, Wiley Gaskins of Ackerly Sands took the win with a time of 9:45.33.
After the opening lap, the senior was in seventh trailing leader Sebastian Talamantez by over a second. That was about the most time between the two throughout the entire race.
The Comstock senior had the fastest qualifying time from the regional meet and was clearly pressing for the state title.
The two broke away from the rest of the pack at the 2400 mark and went stride for stride until the finish line. It was Gaskins literally edging out Talamantez to get the win by the slim 0.14 margin.
Ryker Haivala was challenged for the final podium spot but the Cumby Miller Grove senior pulled away in the final two laps.
