Texas U20 Qualifiers

Killeen HS graduate Michaela Mouton (Houston) makes U20 Championship Team USA in the 400m

There were several former Texas high school girls and boys who competed this week at theU.S. U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

At stake were positions on Team USA and competing in Peru for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships.

So many came close, but there were several who were able to earn a team berth by placing first or second individually. Relay pools for the 4x100 and 4x400 will consist of the top six individual finishers.

Yesterday, we already posted how Tomball Memorial graduate and Baylor freshman Molly Haywood placed second in the pole vault to qualify for the U20 Championships in

Boys

Long Jump

Cordial Vann (Frisco Heritage)  - Won the event with a 7.79m (25-3) best jump; also qualified for 100m finals.

Jackson Norris (Atascocita) - Fourth in 7.58m (24-9)

Jayden Keys (Katy Tompkins)- Fifth in 7.49m (24-6)

Triple Jump

Karson Gordon (Houston Episcopal) - Won the event with a jump of 15.88 (52-1).

Xavier Drumgoole (Round Rock) -  Placed third with a jump of 15.56 (51-1).

Shot Put

Evan Martinez (Arlington Lamar) - Placed third with a toss of 20.04 (65-7)

Boys 100m 

Brayden Williams (Duncanville) - Placed third in the 100m finals with a time of 10.42; ran 10.52 in the prelims.

Corial Vann (Frisco Heritage) - Placed sixth in the finals with a time of 10.45; ran 10.56 in the prelims.

Jayden Finley (North Richland Hills) - Placed seventh in the finals with a 10.46; ran 10.34 in the prelims.

Justin Stewart (Hurst Bell) - Placed eighth in the finals with a time of 10.53; qualified with a 10.60 in the prelims.  


Girls

Triple Jump

Skylynn Townsend (Prosper Rock Hill) - Won the event with a jump of 13.47 (44-2); was also third in the long jump at 6.34 (20-8).

Samantha Ennin (Plano John Paul II) - Placed third with a jump of 12.59 (41-3).

Sydnee Burr (Cypress Park) - Place fourth with a jump of 12.51 (41-0)

High Jump

Claire Lowrey (Texas Tech) - The Rockwall grad won the high jump competition by clearing the 1.84 (6-0.25).

Brianna Rivers (Humble Summer Creek) - Placed third by jumping 1.76 (5-7.75).

Cali Bryant (Houston Memorial) - Also cleared 1.76 (5-7.75) and placed fifth.

Discus

Madeleine Fey (Killeen Chapparal) - Placed fourth with a best toss of 52.34 (175-0)

Carlie Weiser (Texas A&M) - The Giddings grad was fifth with a best toss of 51.77 (169-8).

Heptathlon

Abby Elmore (Gunter) - Elmore qualifies for her second straight U20s world team. Last year at the Pan Am Games she finished with the silver medal. This week, she was second with a point total of 5,363.

400m

Michaela Mouton (Houston) - The Killeen graduate was second in the finals with a time of 52.88; ran 51.77 in the prelims.
