One of the things you will hear cross country coaches and runners talk about is how important it is for a team to run in a tight pack. Today, we will take a look at which San Antonio Metro teams have the best 1-5 split.

In the boys 5K division it is Central Catholic that leads the way with a 1-second advantage over Medina Valley. Both teams have impressive splits of less than 22 seconds. Overall, there are 16 teams that have a 1-5 split of a minute or less. Lytle is one of the teams in the top-10 that consistently uses pack running to their great advantage. Over the past three years, Lytle has one State title and three top-3 finishes at the UIL 3A level.

The girls 5K division does not have nearly as many teams with a 1-5 split of under a minute as the boys do. Four of the top-10 teams in the area also appear in the top-10 in terms of 1-5 split. Smithson Valley is the #1 team in San Antonio and they have the second-best split o...
