South Texas/RGV Season Updates

The South Texas/RGV section of Texas is back at it again. The area continues to find it's way into the top of the state rankings.

Last weekend, the Meet of Champions Cross Country Invitational went down and it provided some updates in the girls and boys individual 5,000m rankings.

Girls

South Texas/RGV Individual Girls Rankings

Dana Rojas Vasquez (McAllen) has been the leading running in the region all season long. Her 17:42 from the Meet of Champions is a new PR and area leading performance.

Vazquez' McAllen teammate Kenzi Ramirez has the second best performance in the region.

As far as ranked teams in the area, it includes UIL 1A ranked No. 1 McMullen County, No. 3 UIL 3A ranked Lytle.

Comal Davenport has become one of the top teams in the class and they're ranked No. 7 in the 4A. Frequently state ranked La Feria checks in at No. 10.

The McAllen girls big 1-2 punch of Vasquez and Ramirez has the Bulldogs ranked No. 6 in the 5A state rankings.

Boys

Zahary Lamar (second position) competes at Mcneil Inv

South Texas/RGV Boys Individual Rankings

This past weekend Zachary Lamar (Harlingen) ran an area best 15:28 performance at the Meet of Champions. Much of the top ten rankings including four of the top five are a result of the meet. 

Runner-up Roehl Rodriguez (McAllen Memorial) ran 15:36, and third place finisher Juan Manuel Aguinaga Jr. (Edcouch-Elsa) ranks No. 3 in the area with his 15:38 run.

Fifth ranked Nathan Salinas (Mission Sharyland) is having a very solid season. His 15:39 season best performance from the MOC follows his 15:42 and 13th place finish at the McNeil Invitational.

CCCAT Team Poll

There are several South Texas teams with solid state meet qualifying chances and internal hopes of making the awards podium in Round Rock.

In the team rankings, there are several region teams that are represented in the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas (CCCAT) rankings.


In 1A, Comstock ranks No. 1 in the ste, with No. 3 Zephyr, and No. 6 McMullen County are all in the top ten.

The 2A rankings, it's only No. 5 Port Aransas in the top ten.

The 3A rankings, No. 5 San Antonio Great Hearts Northern Oaks and No. 10 Progreso representing South Texas.

The No. 2 ranked La Feria and No. 10 Comal Davenport are the UIL 4A teams in the area.

McAllen is ranked No. 4 and Weslaco East are both ranked in 5A.
