Must See Events At Generation Park

Jayden Warren (Iowa Colony) - 2850 - competes in the UIL 4A state track and field meet 100m

Watch LIVE Guide: Generations Park Inv.

There is always talent at Summer Creek's Generation Park Invitational. There is little reason to doubt this week's event won't follow suit to the short history of this meet.

There are going to be some top Houston area athletes competing, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Some of Texas's best and the talent pool even has some elite recruits in the class of 2025 and 2026 along with several 2025 indoor top five nationally ranked athletes.

There will also be at least one football/track athlete who will play on Saturdays and a very good chance on Sundays in the near future as well.

So, here are five girls events and five boys events we think you must see and the reasons why.

Girls 200m

The girls 200m might just be the best event of the entire weekend throughout the state. It will feature the current US No. 3 performer indoors  in Mariah Maxwell (Humble Atascocita) at 23.34, but it will also have the US No. 10 indoors performer Brooke Lloyd (Humble Summer Creek) with her 23.64 mark.

The two represent a Humble ISD district rivalry that will just begin this weekend and last through May at the state meet.

Then there is Kyaliah Davis (Klein Forest) who is a 23.99 performer in her own right at 200m.

Checking in just over 24-seconds is Klein Oak's Alexa Smothers has a 24.14 performance in her career and McKenzi Roberson (Shadow Creek) who is listed and she has a 24.25.

Just like in the informational commercials from the early 1990s, I say to you, "but wait, there's more."

Shadow Creek is still a talented and deep team despite graduating a lot of girls last year, and the 200m is a middle ground where they excel. They have Skylar Moody who has run 24.55 in her career as well as Amai Newman who has run 24.61 before and they'll join fellow Shark, Roberson.

I think Trinity Williams (Humble Summer Creek) who has run 24.63 and Naomi Johnson (Manvel) who has gone 24.65 will also help show why I think this will be an explosive race to watch.

Girls 300 Hurdles

While i'm giving the girls 200m all of this pub, I think the 300-meter hurdles on their side will be extremely good as well.

Lailah Hudson (Shadow Creek) and Phoenix Phillips (Humble Summer Creek) are a certified beasts in this event. Hudson has run 42.31 in her career and Phillips has gone 42.81; both are elite performers.

However, don't overlook Adebola Iyiola (Richmond George Ranch). She has already run 43.74 this season and will waiting in her lane for the chance to race it out with the two 42-second studs.

Not having gone 43 or under yet are Elle Collins (Richmond George Ranch) and Makayla Baptiste (Klein Forest). Collins just missed out on sub 44- seconds last year when she ran 43.15 and Baptiste's 44.65 best came in the UIL 6A - District 15 last year where she placed fourth, good enough to get to Area. This will be a similar type of race and she has proven she doesn't mind going for a ride.

Girls 4x100 relay

What is better than Texas sprint relays? Almost nothing and this race will get the groove of the meet going.

Humble Summer Creek and Shadow Creek have battled it out for the last couple of years when Shadow Creek moved up to 6A and that probably won't change anytime soon.

Summer Creek was the second fastest overall team in the state last year with their 45.05 run and Shadow Creek was the the third with their 45.18.

Summer Creek wasn't fortunate enough to make to the state meet, but Shadow Creek was (2nd); as was Klein Forest (4th) and Atascocita (7th). Iowa Colony was fifth at the UIL 4A state meet in the 4x100 relay and Klein Oak can't be dismissed as they ran 46.09.

Girls Triple Jump

The girls triple jump in Texas is as hot of an event as there is and with good reason because the Houston girls have something to do with it.

There are three girls in the field who have jumped over 40-feet in their careers.

Mia Maxwell (Humble Atascocita) has a 40-11.25 best jump in her career, Taylor Kerns (Klein Oak) has a 40-4.75, and Daijah Miller (Shadow Creek) has gone 40-0.50.

There are also two 39-footers in the competition in Jordyn Barron (Humble Atascocita) at 39-5.50 and Adebola Iyiola (George Ranch). Just to make it a little spicier, there are two 38-footer in the competition as well. Get to the jump pits tomorrow if you can!

Girls Shot Put/Discus

I'm here to tell you that Jayden Kimble (Humble Atascocita) and Logann Edwards (Humble Summer Creek) are two young throwers to be very excited about.

They both had good freshman campaigns and Kimble's even ended with a silver medal at the UIL 6A state meet in the discus.

Kimble comes in with a 44-11 best toss in the shot and Edwards has a 40-7.25 best.

The good thing about them both being in the same school district is that they can help keep one another accountable.

De'andriah Sanders (Humble Summer Creek) has a 39-10 best and Trinity Jefferson (Klein Oak) has a 39-7 best and will both be key competitors.

In the discus, it will again be Kimble (157-10) best, Edwards (145-6), and Sanders with her 142-6.50 best who will fling the discus tomorrow.

Boys 100m

There are six boys entered in the 100 meters who have run sub 11-seconds; All eyes should be on Jayden Warren (Iowa Colony).

It will be hard to miss him because he is big and he is fast. The 6'2" athlete is a four-star wide receiver according to 247Sports and his recruiting is ramping up for the gridiron. Warren is a UIL 4A state meet medalist in the 100m when he finished third with a 10.59.

Peyton Kirkpatrick (Fort Bend Hightower) and Khyran Young (Humble Atascocita) both check in with 10.73 marks on their resumes and Antoine Wilder (Manvel) has a 10.85 performance.

Trent Blaylock (Atascocita) is the brother of the record breaking first leg from last year and he has a 10.91 PR and Reon Little (Klein Forest) has a 10.95 best.

Boys 800m

This will be a pretty exciting race. There is state meet level experience and then some distance guys all looking to get to the next level in this event.

Ian Hill (Iowa Colony) is the most decorated half-miler in the field. The junior has been to the state meet in the 400m in his first two high school seasons and he qualified in the 800m last year taking home a third place medal.

Hill has 800m prototypical type size and speed as a 47-second quarter-miler and the long and lanky frame.

Eli Nettles (Humble Atascocita) has similar speed and build and his time of 1:54.03 isn't far off either. Twin brothers Ja'Juan Allison (Summer Creek) 1:56.79 and Da'Juan Allison (Summer Creek) 1:57.01 are off to good starts in the event.

There are also four other boys coming in with entries under 2-minutes in Aden Saucedo (Iowa Colony) - 1:57.94, Xavier Davila (Klein Oak) - 1:59.24, Elyk Williams (Manvel) - 1:59.48, and Jacob Martinez (Humble Atascocita) - 1:59.81.

Boys 300 Hurdles

There  are there entries in the boys 300-meter hurdles who are sub 39-second guys.

Jadon Hopson (Shadow Creek) at 38.48, Timothy Rhine (Shadow Creek) at 38.53, and Brycen Martin (Manvel) at 38.88.

Hopson, a junior also went 1:59.88 in the 800m last year. So far, this season, Hopson has run 39.12 in is only race as well as a 50.82 in the 400m (50.42 indoors).

Rhine comes more from the speedy side of things than his teammate Hopson with his 110H and 200m racing. He dropped his 38.53 this season at the Cy Ranch Mustang Relays and he was second in his other race to Hopson.

Martin hasn't raced the 300H yet this year, so this will be his coming out party. He did run well indoors this season with several 49-low 400s.

Chris Robertson (Humble Atascocita) is another one to keep an eye on tomorrow. He ran 39.13, just over the 39-second mark.

Boys Long jump

Two of the best jumpers in the country will go at it on the long jump runway.

Norris Jackson (Humble Atascocita) is the UIL 6A state meet runner-up in the long jump. He went 24-0.75 in Austin, but then cranked it up later in the summer at the USATF U20 Championships when he jumped 24-10.50. He is a University of Southern California commit.

Hutchins is another D1 commit as he is heading to Memphis. He jumped 24-10 on February 7th at the

Boys 4x400 relay

I could just be projecting last years success of teams who are at this meet onto this year's field. I know there were a lot of big time graduation hits to a couple of the teams, but i still expect this to be very good.

It was Atascocita ending the season as the 2024 UIL 6A champs with a state leading 3:10 performance. Iowa Colony had success and ended runner-up UIL 4A state meet in the 4x400 relay and had a 3:14.03 best time. Then Klein Forest has been as consistent as any team in the state and they were third last year at state with a time of 3:12.08. Pearland ran 3:14 and Shadow Creek ran 3:17 last season.

So who has good squad this year? Well, Pearland ran 3:18.98 back at their meet on February 7th and  Shadow Creek went 3:23.75 there as well.

Atascocita ran 3:18.99 at the Zoe Simpson Inv. and Summer Creek went 3:21.31. Hightower ene 3:22.64 at Bubba Fife. Klein Forest has gone 3:24.87 and George Ranch has run 3:25.45 this year as well.

This should be quite the entertaining finish to the meet.
