Recapping Indoor National Championship Performances

Brooke Lloyd (Humble Summer Creek) cross the finish line first to win a national championship at NIN

It has been a while since Texas high school athletes have really competed at indoor track and field meets. Since the last weeks of January, the school seasons have begun and in Texas that means it's outdoor season.

However, this weekend, it was the indoor national championship events in Boston with the New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBIN) and the Nike Indoor Nationals (NIN) in New York City. Even though much of the rest of the country has still been running indoors throughout the year while we've been outside, this weekend looked much like the Texas state meet.

Numerous All-American performances were turned in by Texans including championship performances and even national records.

Tate Taylor (San Antonio Harlan) won the boys 200m at the NIN in National Record fashion with a winning time of 20.46. The junior lowered the 20.62 set by Jaylen Slade (IMG, FL) in 2021 and was also faster then the No. 2 mark and prior NR 20.63 set by Noah Lyles (TC Williams, VA). Taylor was also second in the 60m with his 6.64 run.

Ja'Shaun Lloyd (Corsicana) tied an indoor US No. 3 All-Time performance in the 60-meter hurdles. His 7.49 with this weekend at NIN is only behind the 7.40 and 7.45 performances from Trey Cunningham (Winnfield, AL).

Already a national record holder, Cooper Lutkenhaus (Justin Northwest) won the NIN boys 800m with a US No. 3 All-Time performance with his 1:47.83 run.  Dropping a No. 13 All-Time US and No. 1 TX All-Time girls 400m run was Brooke Lloyd (Humble Summer Creek). Her 52.96 time was also good for a NIN Championship and US No. 2 performance this season.

Also netting National Championship wins this weekend was Jayden Thrower (Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill), Mia Maxwell (Humble Atascocita), Brayden Williams (Duncanville), Courtney Daniel (Humble Kingwood Park), and Samantha Ennin (Plano John Paul II).

Thrower popped a huge jump of 50-2.50 for the win, Maxwell who was third in the 200m and fourth in the 60m was able to still get the triple jump win, Williams sprinted to a 6.62 win in the 60m, Daniel threw 48-2.50 at the NBIN for the championship win, and Ennin won the triple jump with a 41-10.50 and was second in the long jump with a 20-10.75.
