Adrian Ramirez and Cristiano Tinoco dazzled the crowd with a kick and a close finish

The final race of the weekend, the 2A Boys race, kicked off around 11:30, marking the official end to what's been an amazing weekend and season of cross country in the state of Texas. 

Heading into the final race of the season, Cristiano Tinoco came in as the likely favorite off an amazing regional performance that saw him comfortably top the best time set by last year's winner. His brother Juan, along with Adrian Ramirez, Ismael Pizano, Jeremiah Gonzalez, and Shane Stawar, were all projected as equal contenders. 

On the team side, Plains returned after a dominant victory last season, but Riesel looked like the favorite coming in after a dominant performance at Region 3. Collinsville, Windthorst, Port Aransas, and New Summerfield all packed into a tight competitive field to make this an incredibly exciting race to watch. 

Ismael Pizano led through the first mile, coming through in a time of 5:01, followed closely by a pack of several main contenders who came in at 5:02 and 5:03. 

Gruver held a narrow three-point lead over Port Aransas with 104 points, while Collinsville sat further behind in third with 131 points. New Summerfield sat fourth, tied with Windthorst at 142 points, within striking distance of the podium. 

Through the 3200m split, Tinoco had taken a commanding lead, pulling away from the pack and coming through in 10:17.50. Pizano dropped four seconds back from the lead in second, passing in 10:21.10 while Caddel Keeling, Adrian Ramirez, and Juan Tinoco came through right on his heels.  

The team race was just as tight at the 3200m mark, with Collinsville coming through in the lead with 108 points while Windthorst sat second with 119 points. Gruver held third with 131 points while New Summerfield sat just a single point behind with 132, shaping the battle for the podium to be a tight one. 

Similar to the 4A Boys race, the battle for the state title came down to the final 50m with Adrian Ramirez pulling off the comeback to win in 16:14.70 while Cristiano Tinoco took second in 16:14.80. 

Ismael Pizano finished third in 16:33.20 while Cooper Ratliff and Caddel Keeling finished just 0.6 seconds apart in 16:40.3 and 16:40.9, respectively. 

Windthorst rode a strong final mile to take the state title with 104 points while Collinsville held on for second, just eight points behind with 112. Gruver finished third on 123 points, nine ahead of Slidell, who finished fourth with 132.
