The meet was held in sunny warm weather. The racing started at 10am with the 2A Girls in great conditions but when the gun went off for the last 4 races including 5A the weather was in the 80's. This was the first time in a awhile that the course was dry and it looked good. The course includes a little bit of everything with some running in wooded areas, sidewalk, very rocky terrain, grass, and even some on the track.
The 2A division got things started at 10am. The defending champions were both pre race favorites (Leigh Berger, Weimer and Nick Everett, Salado). Leigh took control of the girls race early and never let go of the lead. Leigh went through mile one in a quick 5:32. She was followed by Alice Hilgart (Lago Vista). Alice went through the halfway point in 5:47. Leigh continued to dominate with a 11:45 victory. A late surge by Brandi Witte (Brazos) earned her a 2nd place finish. Nick Everett ran a similiar race. Nick went out in in 4:51 to take control of the race. Through two miles he was in 10:28, 9 seconds up on Margriito Corona (Premont). Nick extended his lead to 28 seconds for a 16:22. Margrito held on to 2nd with a 16:50.
The 3A division crowned a new champion in the both divisions. Ernesto Perales (Valley View) and Erica Alvarado (Falfurrias). The girls battle saw 3 girls go out to the early lead. Jasmine Dalton (Stafford) crossed the 1 mile first in 5:46. Only a step behind was Bibiana Vazquez (Gonzales) in 5:47. Erica Alvarado surged past Jasmine in the last 800 meters to take a close 5 second victory 11:57 to 12:-4 over Jasmine Dalton. The boys saw a completely different race with Ernesto Perales dominating from start to finish. Ernesto went through mile one in 4:41 followed by Aaron Lopez (Ingram) in 4:51 and Ray Acuna (Orange Grove) in 4:51. At 2 Ernesto extended his lead to 21 seconds as he went through 10:10. He was followed by Lopez and Acuna in 10:31. Aaron made a late move in the last mile to cut the margin held by Ernesto to 14 seconds 16:13-16:27.
The 4A division saw a girl repeat and a new champion crowned. Amy Fowler (Lake Travis) continued here great season with a impressive 11 victory. Travis Fort (Vista Ridge) ran the fastest time of the day with his victory. Amy came out quick from the gun as she went through the halfway point in 5:27. Two girls held on to the torrid pace with Amy both Christine Dahlhausen (Boerne) and Anissa Angelosante (Marble Falls) in 5:28. Amy Slowly increased her gap to win by a comfortable 11:14-11:25 over Dahlhausen. The boys saw a competitive race between Travis Fort, Chris West (Lockhart), and David Fuentes (Boerne). All three boys went through 1 in 4:45. Fort and West were stride for stride at 2 in 10:02 while Fuentes went through in 10:10. Fort went on for the 14 second victory in 15:36 over West's' 15:50.
The 5A division saw a repeat champion for the girls and crowned a new surprise champion for the boys. Faith Barlow (San Antonio Holmes) continued her great season with a narrow victory over Dana Mecke (Smithson Valley), In what was the closest battle of the day coming down to the homestretch. Dana closed well but it was not enough o dethrone the champion. 11:39-11:40. The boys race was a different race. 3 were in control early with Roel Elizalde (Laredo Alexander), Juan Davilla (Donna), and Ari Perez (CC King) controlling the first mile in 4:42. At 2 Juan had a slight lead coming through in a quick 9:58 with Ari in 10:01 and Roel in 10:07. The eventual race winner Will Schroeder was sitting in the back waiting for his time. He went through 2 at about 10:18. Will made a huge surge to catch and pass Juan for the surprise Regional victory 15:50-15:51.
