More than 470 teams converged on Norbuck Park for the annual start of the
High School Cross Country season in North Texas. Under a blistering sun
with temperatures in the high 90\'s more than 2,000 high school runners
started their quest for success.
In the boy\'s Elite division the team from Northside consisting of Joe
Balleza, Oscan Armijo, Javier Rodriguez and Armando Salazar took the
championship. Southlake Carroll team of Chris Moore, Kyle Ondrasek, John
Depinto and Colby Lowe finished one second behind to claim the silver medal.
The teams from Coppell and Marcus rounded out the top 4.
For the Girls Elite division, the 2 time defending champion Southlake
Carroll team of Brooke Upshaw, Emily Denny, Morgan Kuykendall and Miranda
opened a big lead and finished 2:10 ahead of the Mansfield girls team for
their 3rd consecutive title. Mansfield girls team members were Mandi
Skinner, Sallie Anderson, Leah Reeves and Claribel Quioz. Highland Park and
Decatur placed 3rd and 4th.
In the 4A/5A division boys race, Dallas Jesuit took the gold followed by
Plano East, Louisville and Strake Jesuit. The Girls 5A/4A division was a
runaway for McKinney North, finishing 1:19 ahead of second place Marcus.
Rounding out the top four were the teams from Ursuline and Southlake
Carroll.
