Beautiful blue skies, low humidity and temps in the mid 80's welcomed the official start of High School Cross Country season in North Texas. This meet hosted by Marcus High School draws schools from El Paso to Amarillo to Oklahoma and is always one of the best meets of the season,
In the first race of the morning, Keller claimed the 5A girls championship with 94 points followed by Marcus, Southlake Carroll (A team) and Decatur. Individually, Southlake's Miranda Walker (10:56) placed 1st followed by Loren Hodges, (11:07) a senior from 2A Paradise , Carlene Mayfield (11:15) from Keller and Southlake's Brooke Upshaw (11:24). In the 5A Boy's competition, Flower Mound easily claimed the gold followed by Marcus, Southlake and Fort Worth North Side. In the individual competition, Southlake's Colby Lowe (15:17) finished 1st followed by Boswell's Jared McNeil (15:32), Lewisville's Brandon Cooper (15:53) and J.B. Lagos (16:00) from Flower Mound.
Plainview won the Girls 4A/3A championship followed by Cleburne, Sanger and Northwest. Individual winners were Andrea Buxton (Lake Dallas), Katie Shaw (Cleburne), Hannah Pempsell (Plainview) and Kaili Tucker (Plainview). 4A/3A Boys winners were Northwest, Sanger, FW Nolan and St. Marks. Individual winners were Britt Koestler (Northwest), Aidan Mosher (Paris), Carlos Bencomo (St. Marks) and Daniel Shulman (St. Marks).
