Eleanor Kazanjian Wins First UIL 4A Girls 100H State Title

Eleanor Kazanjian snags the win in a tough UIL 4A 100-Meter Hurdles competition

The 2026 UIL Girls 4A 100-meter hurdles final lived up to its billing as a showdown between the state's top two returning hurdlers, and the race in the middle lanes delivered elite sprint-hurdle execution from start to finish. With a strong tailwind of +3.6 aiding the field, the battle between Eleanor Kazanjian and Chiora Enyinna-Okeigbo quickly became the focal point of the race. Entering the meet, Sunnyvale's Enyinna-Okeigbo carried a season-best of 13.70 and lined up in lane five as the defending state champion, while Kazanjian from Kingsville King entered at 13.58 after finishing runner-up a year ago.

From the gun, both hurdlers exploded toward the first barrier, reinforcing one of the core principles of sprint hurdling, running comes first, hurdling second. The ability to attack the first hurdle with speed immediately separated the contenders, and the middle of the track showed exactly why these two athletes had dominated the classification over the past two seasons. Kazanjian's rhythm between hurdles was exceptionally sharp, and once she gained momentum midway through the race, she never surrendered the advantage.
