Mansfield Timberview's Trysten Shaw Captures UIL 5A Boys 300H Title in 36.29

The UIL 5A boys 300-meter hurdles final once again delivered one of the fastest and deepest hurdle races in the state, though Robert Griffin III's legendary classification record of 35.33 from 2007 remained untouched for another year. Following Ja'Shaun Lloyd's dominant 35.78 state title performance in 2025, the 2026 field entered Austin with several athletes capable of producing elite times, led by Mansfield Timberview junior Trysten Shaw, Prosper Walnut Grove senior Ashton Fletcher, and Alvin Iowa Colony standout Ian Hill. With multiple runners entering under 37 seconds from the regional championships, expectations were high for another thrilling final.

From the gun, Shaw displayed the calm and composed demeanor of a seasoned championship hurdler. Running smoothly around the curve, the Timberview junior maintained excellent rhythm and quickly established himself among the leaders through the middle hurdles. Behind him, Hill steadily built momentum and appeared to be mounting a serious challenge entering the final stretch. As the field approached the final three hurdles, the race tightened dramatically with Hill beginning to close rapidly on Shaw.
