Nichole Jones (JR) broke the pack of 10 girls well past the 2 mile mark to
win the girls 5k race in 17:10. It is the fastest time for the girls race in 21
years.
The girls pack started out quick in 5:15 for the first mile. The girls pack of
10 held strong. The 2 mile went through 11:12 with Nichole Jones and Miranca
Walker, still in striking distance.
Jones opened up a gap late in the race and ran away with the victory in 17:10.
Miranda Walker finished 9th in 17:23. That time would have run every other
footlocker south race except for 4. State Champion Brooke Upshaw claimed the
10th spot with a 17:26.
In the boys race Michael Eaton (KY) ran away with the title in 14:46. Followed
by Daniel Gerber (TX) in 15:51. State Champion Duncan Phillips dipped under 15
(14:59) to place 5th and Super Sophomore Colby Lowe qualified for nationals
placing 9tj.
The boys race started out fast in a 4:30 first mile. Eaton was all by himself
with everyone else biding theri time. At 2 Eaton continued to lead big as he
passed 2 at 9:24. Gerber moved well over the last mile to earn 2nd.
