BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Marshall University women's track and field team placed five student-athletes in the top-10 at the Virginia Tech Challenge this weekend at Rector Field House.
The Thundering Herd now turns its attention to the Conference USA Championship Meet set to take place next weekend, hosted by the University of Houston.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Marshall University women's track and field team had three student-athletes finish in the top 10 in their event at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Vanessa Jules finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-07.25 feet (1.71m) which is two inches shy of her school record.
FINDLAY, Ohio – Vanessa Jules of the Marshall University women’s track and field team broke her own school record in the high jump and also set a school record in the 300-meter dash at the Oiler Open Saturday afternoon hosted by Findlay University.
Coming off a freshman season where she was crowned a Junior All-American, Jules picked up right where she left off opening the 2010-11 season. The Silver Springs, Md., native won the high jump with a height of 5-9 ¼ which broke her own school record of 5-8 ½ set last outdoor season.
She would then double-back in the 300-meter dash as she took second place overall, breaking Taneshia Becton’s school record of 41.78 set in 2001. Jules crossed the line in a time of 41.50.

TULSA, Okla. - Matt Schiffbauer of the Marshall University men's cross country team placed third overall to help the Thundering Herd finish fourth as a team at the 2010 Conference USA Cross Country Championships Monday morning.
Schiffbauer finished the 8K course at the Indian Springs Country Club in a time of 23:42. He was 12 seconds behind Elkana Rotich of UTEP who was the individual champion. Schiffbauer earned First-Team All-Conference USA with the third-place finish.

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Marshall University women's track and field team had first place finishes from Alecia Daniels, LaTricia Jones, Cara Rumburg and Kristin Smith at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational Friday night.
Daniels galloped to the top spot in the 400 meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line in a winning time of 1:04.03.
The Herd had three first place finishes in field events as Cara Rumburg won the shot put, Jones in the hammer throw, and Smith taking top honors in the high jump.
Rumburg and Jones went 1-2 in the shot put with Rumburg winning the event at 12.61m and Jones finishing behind her in second with a toss of 11.87m. Jones also took second place in the discus throw with a distance of 39.81m, and concluded her day by winning the hammer throw with a distance of 48.29m.
Smith took first place in the high jump with a clearing distance of 1.57m (5-01.75 feet).
The Herd resumes action next weekend when MU participates in one of the most prestigious events in track and field at the Penn Relays.
HOUSTON, Texas - Andrea Jackson jumped her way to second place in the triple jump as the Marshall University women's track and field team concluded Conference USA Indoor Championships at the University of Houston.
Jackson's distance of 41-05.75 feet was 1.25 feet clear of Tomika Story of UCF for third place. UTEP's Blessing Okagbare won the event at 44-05 feet.
Despite not placing on the podium, many Marshall athletes posted numerous season bests, including Vanessa Jules who tied the school record in high jump, clearing 5-7 feet.
Other personal bests were Allison Cox in the 3000 with a time of 10:36.22, Kathleen Clark in the 800 (2:21.19), Molly Grove in the weight throw (51-07) and Rolanda Bruce in the 400 meter dash (58.49). The 4x400 relay team also posted a season best.
The Herd placed 10th in Houston and now will send a handful of girls to Virginia Tech next weekend with one final chance to qualify for indoor nationals.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – With the conclusion of the 2009 indoor season, the Marshall women’s track team has a lot to look back on and be proud of from the 2008-09 indoor season. In addition to the personal best and winning events, the six school records that were set by four different student-athlete stand out.
Though the records that fell were all individual, the new marks are more than personal bests. The records are motivation for these athletes and their teammates to excel and take the program to the next level.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall track and field team travels to El Paso, Texas, for the Conference USA Championship on May 11-13. The meet, hosted by UTEP, marks the first time the Thundering Herd will compete since April 28 at the Penn Relays.
HOUSTON- The Thundering Herd track and field team recorded 11 new season best times/distances at the Conference USA indoor track and field championship in Houston, Texas, on Friday and Saturday. Overall, Marshall finished 12th at the championship while Houston claimed the title.
