Can The Returning 3A State Champs Win Again?

Girls 3A

Cryslan Tucker

The girls race also features the returning state champion Cryslan Tucker. The Holliday sophomore pulled off the win as only a freshman last year, and will look to repeat this year. Tucker comes in with the fastest 2mile (11:39) time in the state, and 2nd fastest 3200m (11:38) time. She ran 12:00 to comfortable win Region 2. East Bernard's Jessica Rabius will look to challenging Tucker again this year after finishing runner up in 2014. Rabius will have to come back strong to place that high again as she only finished 3rd in Region 3 behind two new comers. Freshmen Jenna Brazeal (1st) from Little River Academy, and Makenna Saucedo (2nd) from Bruceville-Eddy both beat Rabius having outstanding races for the conditions. Brazeal also holds the fastest 3200m time run this year of 11:10. Other athletes who will look to be in the mix are Eustace's Chanda Westbrook, and Pottsboro Olivia Zint.

Holliday after their district championship

Could we see Tucker lead the the Holliday girls to a team title this year? The answer is maybe. They have the best team score based off of 2014 SB times but there are several teams within striking distances including the 2014 state champs Eustace. The Lady Bulldogs return all of their top seven from the state championship team, and were Region 3 runners up by only 22 points. Given the conditions of the course this might have contributed to the teams 2nd place finish. East Bernard is a team that's only ranked 6th based on team scores beat Eustace scoring 71 points. East Bernard was helped to that victory by strong performances by Rabius and junior Liz Guerra, who finished 3rd and 4th. Other teams with potential top three finishes are Paradise, and Brock who finished 2nd and 3rd in Region 2 behind Holliday. The two were only separated by three points.
