TTFCA Announces Post-Season Awards!

2016 Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year

Female Track Athlete of the Year -- Courtney Okolo -- University of Texas
"Okolo won her second NCAA outdoor title in the 400 meters and fourth overall last week at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She also ran the anchor leg in a dramatic come-from- behind victory for the Longhorns to make it an indoor/outdoor sweep for her in both events in 2016. "During the regular season, Okolo broke her own collegiate record in the 400 meters with an amazing time of 49.71 seconds. This mark shattered her previous time of 50.03 set at the 2014 Big 12 Championship. Okolo became the first collegiate to run sub-50 and the third women ever to do it in the month of April." Her accomplishments have earned her a nomination for the Honda Sport Award for track and field. -- from the TexasSports.com website

Female Field Athlete of the Year -- Maggie Malone -- Texas A&M
Malone broke the collegiate javelin mark of Indiana's Irina Kharun (202-10; 2004) with a throw of 204 feet. Not only did she surpass the Olympic qualifying mark of 62 meters (62.19), but she also moved up to #4 on the all-time American list. She now owns the number 1, 4, 7, and 8 best collegiate performances in the javelin.
