Summer Training Blog Week 4: Abbey Santoro


Monday 8/8/16
Our flight to Chicago from DFW took off at s7:00 AM. After we landed we took an Uber to Six Flags Great America and spent pretty much the whole day there. Once we left we had to walk to the hotel where they were holding our luggage for us and after that we took another Uber to the train station where we had an hour ride in order to get downtown to our hotel. We finally got to the train station and had to take a taxi to get to the hotel. It was around 9:00 PM when we got to the hotel and I still had to run so I hit the treadmill for an easy 5 mile run at 7:30 pace. At this point I was so tired after I finished running I took a shower and went straight to bed.

Tuesday 8/9/16
Today we spent 5 hours on a boat fishing in Lake Michigan. We caught 1 salmon and 4 rainbow trout which all weighed about 10-12 lbs each. After we got back I went to the treadmill to get my 5 mile run in (1 mile warm up, 3 mile epr, and 1 mile cool down) I ran my mile warm up around 7:45 pace and the epr was 7:00 minute pace, and my mile cool down was 8:00 minute pace. Overall this run wasn't too terrible, but it was still on a treadmill so it wasn't too good either.

Wednesday 8/10/16
This morning we took a boat tour of the architecture in Chicago and visited the Navy Pier then later we went to the beach. After getting back from the beach I hit the treadmill for my 6-mile run (1-mile warmup, 3-mile progressive repeats, 2-mile cool down). My first mile was 6:11, my second mile was 6:03, and my last mile was 5:56. The only thing I like about the treadmill is that you can pick exactly what pace you need to run which was really helpful during my mile repeats. My little sister came with me to the exercise room to keep me company which quickly turned into her watching Netflix on her iPod, but she did decide to run an 8-minute mile on the treadmill! Thursday 8/11/16
Last run on the treadmill for hopefully a REALLY LONG TIME. Today I had a 7 mile run (1-mile warmup at 7:45 pace, 5-mile epr, and 1 mile cool down at 8:30 pace). My first 4 miles of the epr were at 7:03 pace and then I really pushed the last mile and ran 6:44. The hotel gym had cold towels which felt SO GOOD on my head after my run! I'm so ready to fly home tomorrow and finally be back in Texas for the rest of the summer.

Friday 8/12/16
Today we flew back home really early this morning. I woke up not feeling well and barely being able to breathe through my nose and had a really bad headache, it continued on throughout the rest of the day and unfortunately I didn't feel well enough to run like I was planning to which really stinks because I haven't had a full week of training the past couple weeks, but there's nothing I can do about it except take care of myself and hope that I'm feeling well enough to get in my long run tomorrow.

Saturday 8/13/16
Set my alarm for 6:30 this morning with plans to run my long run if I was feeling well enough and I woke up and knew that running was probably not the best idea when I couldn't even breathe through my nose. I'm feeling better than yesterday but still not 100% so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Sunday 8/14/16
Woke up at 6:30 this morning and vaguely remember turning off my alarm with the intention of getting up to run, but 20 minutes later I woke up and realized I had fallen back to sleep. I finally felt well enough to run so I did an 8-mile long run. I didn't feel the best, but at least I got to run.
