Summer Training Blog Week 2: Abbey Santoro
Monday 7/25/16:
I'm still in Flagstaff because after running camp was over my family came up so we could spend a week in Arizona for vacation. Today I decided to take the day off from running to recover from this past week. Although I didn't run today we did hike 3 1/2 miles through the Grand Canyon.

Tuesday 7/26/16:
We drove to Sedona from Flagstaff this morning to tour parts of Sedona on one of the "Pink Jeep Tours". Originally I had planned to run before we left, but when I woke up at 6:00 AM I decided that wasn't happening. After the tour was over and we headed to our hotel it was way too hot to even think about running outside so the treadmill was my only option. Today's run was an 8-mile base run which I ran on the treadmill at 8.0 mph which was 7:29 pace. On the bright side, I had a great view! NOT.
Staring at this wall for 8 miles was a punishment so harsh I would not wish it upon anyone else. Although the run was really boring I actually felt really good and probably could have sped up the pace a little.

Wednesday 7/27/16:
Early this morning we went tubing on the Verde River so I had to wait until later today to run. After we went tubing we drove from Sedona to Phoenix and stopped by the Nike outlet on the way. By the time we got to the hotel is was 4:30 PM and 109 degrees outside. So the treadmill it is. I had another 8-mile base run and I ran the first 6 miles at 8.0 mph which was 7:29 pace and then the last 2-miles I bumped up the speed to 8.5 mph which was 7:03 pace. I felt really good on this run too, probably due to the fact that my view was 10x better than the yellow wall I was forced to stare at yesterday and I was watching Food Network the whole time.

Today I had a 10-mile recovery run which unfortunately I was forced to run on the treadmill AGAIN. I ran at 7.0 mph which was 8:34 pace. My legs were really sore from my past two base runs so I took this run really slow. Once again Food Network kept me entertained, but I also changed the channel during the run to watch some HGTV. Tomorrow we are leaving for home and I couldn't be happier. I only have one more treadmill run until I'm back in Texas running on the trails! In conclusion, this vacation truly expanded my hatred for treadmills.

Friday 7/29/16:
At 6:00 AM this morning I got up to run another 10-mile recovery run on the treadmill. My legs were still sore so I ran the same speed of 7.0 mph (8:34 pace). There was nothing good on TV this early so I watched Nick Jr which was good enough to entertain me for the duration of the run. Tonight we are flying back home to Texas and I can't wait to be able to run on something other than a treadmill!

Saturday 7/30/16:
Our flight back to DFW landed around 12:00 AM so by the time we got back home and were ready for bed it was 1:30 AM. I set an alarm for 6:30 AM to get up and run, but when I woke up I realized that wasn't happening because I was way too tired. I had to wait to get my run in until around 8:30 PM or so. I did a 4-mile shakeout run and I felt great! This was my first time running back at home after training at altitude for 2 weeks. My splits were 6:45, 6:52, 7:01, and 7:24. It's safe to say I'm free from the treadmill... At least for a little while.

Sunday 7/31/16:
I woke up at 6:30 this morning to do my 6-mile recovery run. I felt alright on this run, but not the best. My legs were felt pretty tight for the first mile, but after that, they loosened up so I think I'm in need of an ice bath.
