Summer Training Blog Abbey Santoro Week 6

Today at practice we had a mile time trial on the track which went pretty well! Before the time trial we did a 2 lap warmup on the track and stretched, then after the time trial, we ran 5 miles (2 on the track and 3 on a loop), then came back and did 10 strides. Later in the day, I did core, because we didn't do it at practice and unfortunately had to get ready for the first day of school tomorrow.

Today was the first day of school, but now that the day is over I guess it could have been worse than it was. For practice this morning we did a 2 lap warmup, core, and 5 miles with half @ EPR pace and the other half at recovery. I felt so good on this run, especially for the EPR. My first mile was 6:36 and my second mile was 6:21, my third mile was 6:51, and my last two miles were 7:57 and 8:16. After school today we had weights and focused a lot on our form. The result: I am very sore.

Are you feeling hungry? Because today we did a speed sandwich at practice. Sorry that was a horrible joke, but before our workout we did a 2 lap warm up and then for our speed sandwich we had a 2 mile EPR, 4x200 (at finishing pace) with a 200 jog in between each, and then another 2 mile EPR, and we finished with ten 100 meter strides. I felt pretty good during this workout despite being sore from weights yesterday. I started to really feel fatigued during the last 2-mile EPR, but overall it was a great workout!

Today we had an easy 45-minute recovery run with a two lap warm up and core before we started running. After a couple of hard workouts this week a recovery run felt great. We went out for 22 and a half minutes and then turned around and by the end of the run we had finished with 5.75 miles. After school, we had weight room and after we had finished the workout I questioned what it was like to not feel sore.

Once again we started the day with a 2 lap warmup and did our dynamic stretches before we did the workout. Today we had a track workout which was a ladder (200, 400, 600, 800, 800, 600, 400, 200). I was absolutely dreading this workout as I usually do when we have a ladder, but this was the best I have ever felt during one of these workouts! All of the captains planned a team building exercise for after we finished the workout which was hilarious to watch.

Today we had a 7-mile long run. Julia and I met at my house and ran through the Bear Creek Trails in Keller. Later today our team went to see the new movie about girls cross country "Remember the Goal". It was a very inspirational movie and was good for our team to see a movie that was centered on a team that had the same goal as we do especially because there is one week until our season opener at Marcus 1.

Today I just had my usual 4-mile shakeout run which I ran when it was 90 degrees outside so it was pretty hot. I am definitely ready for the cooler weather that comes with fall and cross country season!
