SAM WORLEY will take his attempt at taking down the four minute mile barrier. This weekend, Worley will be in perhaps the most talented high school 1600m field this year. With a slew of the nation's best milers in the Brooks PR Inv. field, Worley can perhaps be the next high schooler under 4:00.
On April 1, 2017, Worley won the Jerry Thompson Mile at the Texas Relays. In that race, he beat both collegiate and professional runners on his way to a 4:00.61. At the UIL 6A state meet, he went 4:02.30 to take the 1600m title, so sub four minutes seems like just a matter of time for Worley.
In a field that has more quality runners than the normal high school race, all Worley needs is a field of guys looking to put the PR in the Brooks PR Inv. If that happens for the first three laps, Worley's 1:48.25 and 55 closing lap ability should make the odds favorable for a sub four run.
