State Championship Boys 4-A Preview

Why: San Ellie will be trying to win again and they look as good as ever. By win again, I'm talking about winning their fourth consecutive title just like the Bandera 4A girls. Despite graduating three from their top seven including All-State and state champion Erick Arambula, they might be better than ever. They have some outstanding freshmen in Edwin Gomez and Arambula's brother Rene Arambula. Aside from the freshmen, they bring back a strong core of runners that assisted in the past championships. San Elizario also dominated Region I with only a 29 second split.

Don't think that things aren't going to get interesting though. Fredericksburg is for real. They have a 16:34 team average and only a 40 second split. They are led by three sophomores and their youth could bode well for this meet and the future. There are so many other suitors vying for the title. Kaufman is on a mission to improve off of last year's close fifth place finish. In the virtual meet, they check in with 128 points and if they get a big time finish from their #5, then they could make things interesting.

That's not all as Melissa, Waxahachie Life, and Progresso are all separated by six points. The difference between sixth place and second place are all separated by a slim margin. One big time race within somebody's top five and the whole race could wind up in a state of confusion.
This will definitely be a race you won't want to miss!

Individuals: The young guns could own this race. Melissa freshman Judson Greer has the fastest 4A time of the year. He has several sub sixteen runs on the season including a 15:38 season's best. San Elizario freshman Edwin Gomez has the number two time with his 15:44 PR. Kaufman sophomore Christian Rivera placed ninth in last year's state race and has a top time this season. Waxahachie Life junior
Samuel Rosales and Melissa junior Jackson Scribner are the other runners who are under sixteen minutes. The individual race will have a big time effect on the team race and I'm sure the runners all know what is at stake.
