Girls Preseason All-State Cross Country 1st Team

Rank: #2

Name: Halena Rahmaan

School: Montgomery

Graduation Year: 2019

Rahmaan is the returning UIL 6A state cross country champion, but she won't be defending her 6A state title. Montgomery got shuffled down to 5A with the realignment and now she will try to win the 5A state title against the two time defending 5A champion London Culbreath.

Rahmaan had a slightly slow start out of the gate due to Hurricane Harvey hitting the Houston area, but when she got rolling she really got at it. She helped lead her Montgomery team to the state meet en route to her own individual title and 17:16.30 PR.

She gave it a shot at trying to qualify for her second straight individual NXN championships, but she had to drop out in the middle of the NXR South regional race due to breathing complications. No worries, she gathered herself and gave it a go at the Foot Locker South Regional where he successfully qualified with her 6th place finish. At Foot Locker Nationals she ran to a 35th place finish against the nation's best.

Track season was good for Rahmaan as she collected several PRs. She showed she has some leg speed with her 2:12.48 and 4:54.48 in the 800m and 1600m and she ran to a fourth place finish in the 1600m. Most recently, Rahmaan won the AAU Junior Olympic 1500m in 4:39.62.

Rahmaan is looking forward to the state meet match up of last year's 5A and 6A individual state champ between herself and Culbreath. She also made it clear that her goal is to get back to Foot Locker Nationals.
