Addyson Bristow out of Canyon was the clear favorite coming into the 4A Girls 800-meter run. With the fastest qualifying time by nearly four seconds, it was expected for her to finish well ahead of the rest of the field.

The sophomore, who was the runner-up a season ago, took the win but was challenged along the way by some of her upperclassmen competitors. She crossed the finish line with a time of 2:10.61 after a strong start that saw the field hit the 200-meter mark in just under 30 seconds.

Senior Maggie Neal of Krum shaved some time off her regional performance to claim second with a time of 2:11.88. Trista Etheridge from Mabank claimed the final podium spot with a time of 2:13.30.

Hannah Stuart knows what it takes to win a state title in the mile. Last year's state champion looked poised throughout the four laps as she controlled the second half of the race with ease.

The Canyon senior finished the race the way she started it -- out in front. She recorded a split of 1:11.56 in her final lap to take the win over teammate Addyson Bristow who crossed with a time of 4:56.29.

Last year's state champion, Cadence Patterson of Comal Canyon Lake, took fourth after suffering a fall in the third lap.

Nyomi Garcia of Robstown held on with the pack to secure the bronze medal with a time of 5:02.83. She was in fifth place through two laps but covered some ground behind a 1:13.98 split on the final lap.
