It was the Gregory-Portland girls cross country team's turn to shine on Saturday.
The Lady Cats didn't waste any sunlight in doing so, as they used three top 10 individual finishes Saturday to win the Moody Invitational at Cole Park.
The state's eighth ranked Carroll Tigers split into two teams Saturday but still knocked off defending Class 5A state champion King to win the boys title for the second consecutive week.
The Lady Cats, meanwhile, distanced themselves from second place Carroll and Rockport-Fulton and seventh-ranked Class 4A Tuloso-Midway to run away with the girls title.
"I'm pretty pleased today, and it's always nice to win but our focus is (on the District 30-4A, Region IV-4A and Class 4A state meets) in late October and November," Gregory-Portland coach Kevin Pope said. "This is just another step along the way, although it's nice to see the kids have (some early-season) success."
Lady Cats senior Erica Parker (who won the race in 12 minutes, 44 seconds), senior Courtney Johnson (fourth place) and junior Kendall Hogan (eighth place) placed in the top 10 to lead G-P to the victory.
Parker showed off her sprinter's speed early in the two-mile race and cruised to the victory while improving on her time (13:06) from last week at West Guth Park.
