Salute to Seniors- Leon Powell


Name: Leon Powell Jr.
School: Kennedale High School
 
What was your most memorable race? My most memorable race was the 4x2 at our home meet. 
We were behind in the race and I was fourth leg and caught us up to finish with a gold medal.
 

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
 I would say my biggest competition over my four years were Emmanuel Hicks from Mineral Wells and Malik Wilson from Benham.
 

What was your greatest accomplishment?
•My greatest accomplishment was winning state in the 200 and breaking the 200 regional record(3A).


If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
•I would change my views on losing. 
I know that everyone sometimes lose and it's just Gods plan for your benefit.


What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome? 

•The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was losing. I was used to winning most of my races but when I lost I used to let it get to me which later began to affect my races and the way I run.

 

What will you miss the most?

•I will miss my team and coaches the most. Over these years we have built quite a relationship. What advice you would give to younger athletes? •Trust in God and stay hungry.

 

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

•My coach (Coach Paul) had a huge influence. He taught me how to perform with full effort and to never let up which conveys to life situations which will later grow me into a man.

 

What are your college plans?

•My college plans are to perform very well in track (UCLA) and to have a GPA of at least 3.2 and above.

 

Who would you like to say thank you to?

•I would like to first thank God and all my coaches who helped me get to where I'm at today (Coach Paul, Dasha, Polk, Clearance, Coy), my family, Madeline, and I would also like to thank my teammates for trusting in me.
