- Congrats on an awesome undefeated senior track season, Tell us about your 32/16 double at the state meet and how hard it was to double back.
The state meet was incredible, I was a little nervous before the 3200 but just kept telling myself to relax and get after it, when I finished it was like a huge sigh of relief, breaking 9 and winning was such a great feeling. Before the 1600 I was a little sore but I was relaxed and confident, I had already got the "State Title" monkey off my back and I was able to just go and run my race. Running under the lights was something else and the adrenaline was high. When I crossed I was just excited. I remember watching Robert Domanic do the same the year before and I told myself that what he did was what I wanted to shoot for.
It was definitely hard but also a lot of fun, I had not doubled up on races in almost a month and that was pretty tough but I was able to see myself through.
-You ran an impressive 4:07.53 at the state meet. It was over a 2 second PR. How much faster can you go?
I think I can go faster than a 4:07, with people pushing through the race and until the end I would think there may be a PR in there. I'm hoping for a couple second PR up in NYC.
-Rumor has it that you ran a 49 second leg on the Keller 4x4. Is that just an urban legend or do you have that kind of speed?
I did anchor the keller 4x400 in 49 seconds, which also turned out to be the most fun I've had in a race. Derek Guiterrez, jake McConnell and I all ran the 4X400 at district so we could qualify our team to area, we had all run the mile right before hand but our coach still insisted we run the race. Derek was leading after his second leg but got the baton knocked out which put us in last, McConnell ran a 50 to put me in striking distance and I ran a 49 and got us 4th while passing timber creek in the final 50 meters of the race. I felt incredible, I had adrenaline out of this world.
-Tell everyone what it means to hold a golden ticket and about the Adidas Golden Stripe Meet in NY.
It's an incredible feeling to hold the dream mile ticket. I have been fantasied with the race since my sophomore year and even got on the watch list last year. But to finally hold the ticket is a dream come true, to have the opportunity to race against the best in the nation is truly an honor and I am so excited to compete.
- You are running for Arkansas next year. Who do you have as a roommate? What are your expectations for your FR year?
I am not sure who my roommate is going to be but it may be another signee from Wisconsin named Ethan Moehn but I guess I will see!
For my freshman year I am hoping to have a shot at being named freshman of the year and being a contributor to the cross country as well as the track teams.
