Region II Cross Country in the Spotlight.

The championship season has started. With all of the district competition completed around the state it is time to think about Regionals. For those who are not familiar with how to qualify in Texas for the State Cross Country meet here is a quick summary.

The state is separated in four different Regions. Region I encompasses Districts 1-8. The race is ran at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. Region II are Districts 9-16 and is ran at Vandergriff Park in Arlington. Region III are Districts 17-24 and is ran at Kate-Barr Ross Park in Huntsville. Region IV are Districts 25-32 and is ran at UTSA in San Antonio. Out of each Region the top 3 teams and top 10 Individuals qualify for the state meet ran at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on November 15th.

Of course I can\'t be at all of the Regions at the same time so every year I have to make the tough decision on which to cover extensively. As you can tell from the headline I am going to Region II. The Following is just a preview of what to look for at the meet.

Their will be 18 teams that will compete that is ranked in the CCCAT Coaches Poll. Their will be 22 athletes that have made the Txrunning.com elite cross country list. For Example, Brain Sullivan (The Woodlands) He was the only Texan in 2003 to qualify for the Footlocker Cross Country championships. He is going to battle Erik Stanley (Klein) who has run 4:03 in the 1600. Also in the 5A race is outstanding junior Scott Macpherson (Plano). Watch for the Lyndsy and Erin Bedell (Plano West). They have been winning all year long. They will have their hands full with the duo from Cedar Park Cassie Hostick and Haile Bullin. Also look for Logan Sherman (JJ Pearce) and Joel Sartain (Mesquite Poteet). They have been impressive all year long.

In order to give all of the cross-country fans out there the most extensive coverage possible I have decided to digitally video record the meet and produce DVD\'s for Purchase. All of the proceeds made will go straight back to the site in order to make it the best it can be.
