Norman Grimes: Gatorade T&F POY for Texas

On June 19th, junior Norman Grimes from Canyon High School was named the Gatorade Boys Track and Field Player of the Year for the state of Texas. This announcement came the same day he placed third in the 400m Hurdles at New Balance Nationals Outdoors.

Grimes has had an outstanding year running the hurdles. At the 110m distance, he was his regional's champion and took first at the Great Southwest Classic in early June where he ran a PR of 13.71. He went on to run at NBNO and finish 11th in the event.

Norman was particularly dominant in the 300m Hurdles this year where he did not lose a single race in the event. At the Texas Relays, he won the race with his time of 36.10. That PR was U.S. No. 1 on the year. He would go on to also take first at the Texas state meet.

In mid June, Grimes was selected to represent USA at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational held in Cuba. There he ran the 400m Hurdles for the first time. He won the event in a time of 50.80. Just one week later he went on to place third at NBNO in only his second time ever running this distance.
