On June 17th, senior Samantha Gonzalez from Carrollton Creekview was named the Gatorade Girls Track and Field Player of the Year for the state of Texas for her performance in the hurdles throughout the season. In the 100m Hurdles, she finished third at the Texas state meet in a time of 13.84. Gonzalez finished the season ranked in the U.S. top 50 in the event on the year with her 13.77 PR from her district meet.
Samantha was especially dominant in the 300m Hurdles this season as she went undefeated in the event all year. She won the Texas Relays in a time of 41.89. Here is her interview from after the race.
At the Texas state meet, Gonzalez won the 300 Hurdles with her time of 40.81, putting her at U.S. No.10 all time and U.S. No. 2 on the year in the event. That time also broke the Texas state record. Watch her record breaking run here.
