Maddy Mondays! Snakes/Volleyball/Rockwall/Mile PR In Week #1!

Maddy Mondays: Week #1

Monday 8/17: What better way to start this blog off than by waking up at 6:42 when practice was at 6:30. I had three alarms set, and slept through them all. Long story short, I made it to practice in 8 minutes, and sprinted warm up to catch up to the team at a park called LL Woods that is 1.5 miles away from Marcus. Workout was a 10 mile EPR (endurance paced run) and we were able to run on grass for the entire run. After the run back to Marcus we had dynamic drills and stretching to end AM maddywall1.jpgpractice. At 5:15 we had PM weights and an afternoon run if you needed miles, unfortunately I couldn't make it there, so I went rock climbing that night to build up arm strength.

Tuesday 8/18: Once again, todays practice was at 6:30AM (but I actually made it on time) and it was just an easy 6 mile recovery run. We started with one mile on the track then ran a 5 mile loop around the neighborhoods surrounding Marcus. We ended practice with 4 x 200 meter strides, drills, and stretching. Afterwards we walked up to the school, and decorated our locker room with random things we find on the side of the road while on runs; such as a stuffed wizard snake, a foam school bus, artwork, posters, etc.

Wednesday 8/19: Todays workout was another EPR like Mondays, but not as many miles. We started the run at the Marcus track and ran on the median of Morriss Rd. for 8 miles. Our group of girls started out at 7:25 pace and ended at 6:45 all together. At 5:30PM we had weight room and other strength exercises, followed by a run to get all of the miles you needed for the day. I ran 3 miles barefoot around the inside of the track, switching directions half way through.

Thursday 8/20: Tempo day… This morning was the first 4 mile benchmark run of the cross country season. We warmed up with a one mile, then drills, and sprint starts. My goal for the tempo was to run 90 second laps until the last mile, and pick up the pace to break 24. My time for the tempo was 23:47, and we had 3 other girls all run under 25 minutes for the first time in Marcus history (according to coach T). Once everyone finished, we ran 1 lap for cool down and stretched, then piled on a bus and drove to burgers lake. At burgers lake we had the first ever Burgers Lake Olympics, including volleyball, diving, high diving, trapeze, and ultimate frisbee. After playing multiple games of volleyball, my team made it to the championship game and skunked the competition with an 11 - 0 win. Then we all decided to quit cross country, and focus on our sand volleyball careers.

Friday 8/21:Today we didn't have scheduled practice, but everyone was supposed to run on their own. Two of my teammates and I met at the track, and ran an easy recovery run, because we were sore from the run yesterday, and we have a one mile race tomorrow night.

Saturday 8/22: This morning I woke up and drove to the track to do a warm up in my new spikes to break them in before the time trial tonight. Afterwards I met my family at seven mile cafe to eat pancakes for breakfast. At 9:45 PM the team met at the track for our SOS (start of school) one mile time trial. We warmed up with 3 laps and dynamic drills, then put our spikes on, did a couple strides, and started the race. Everyone was extremely happy with their race, we had 9 girls break 6 minutes, 5 went under 5:20, and I got a 3 second PR. The boys did awesome as well, the top seven guys all ran PRs, and everyone is super pumped for the season to start. Then we all cooled down one lap together and did some static stretching.

Sunday 8/23: My Sunday consisted of rest, an ice bath, and getting ready for the first day of senior year.
