Class 6A Region Previews, Including the Region of Doom!

6A Region 1

For both boys and girls this is the region of doom. Why is that you ask? With so many of the states top teams running in this region, it's going to be extremely tough to make it to the state meet.

So many of the teams on the guys side have looked strong all year, it's hard to choose only a few to focus in on, below are a few highlights.

Southlake Carroll
Clearly one of the favorites coming into regionals, as the defending state champs, they will again be a strong force to be strong force to be reckoned with. Reed Brown has proven to be the number one guy again this year, looking very strong while taking down some big competition in his past few meets. Namely the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival where he finished 1st running 15:06, and Asics Clovis Invitational where he finished 13th 15:32. The team has had a few speed bumps finding a constant two and three, but with their depth it doesn't matter because someone always steps up to fill the holes. With their season's best times they've averaged a 52s 1-5 split.

Amarillo Tascosa
The guys from Tascosa have also looked strong all year since we saw them open up their season back at Marcus I. They finished 3rd overall and 2nd for class 6A schools in a loaded field. The team is led by a strong sophomore and junior in Wes Mcphail and Briggs Wittlake. Both Mcphail and Wittlake have finished top ten in every race they've raced in this year. At districts this squad swept the top five spots, all running 17:30 or better led by Mcphail and Wittlake who both ran 15:30 or faster (3miles).

El Paso Eastwood
This is a team I have not personally been able to watch yet but they have looked strong on paper. Led by junior Daniel Bernal they have placed 5th or higher in every meet they've competed at this year. They went out to Arizona in early October to run the Desert Twilight XC Festival and placed 5th in a loaded field with some national ranked teams. They have two guys in Bernal and senior Matt Munoz who have both run under 15:30. Watch for this team to have a strong race.

Midland Senior High School
This is another team looks very good on paper. They scored a low 22 points to win their district meet led by seniors Bryce Hoppel and RubenGuerra. The team has a tight 38 second 1-5 Split.

Lewisville Hebron
They won their district meet against some strong competition with Allen, and Flower Mound. The Hawks were led by senior Drew Cummings, who ran 16:12 for the win. They pulled off the win in a tough district over Flower Mound by only five points! They also beat Allen at District who beat them earlier this year at the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival.

****Other teams we can't sleep on are the guys from Arlington Bowie, Coppell, Allen, Keller Timber Creek, and Flower Mound. All have the ability to pull off a big race and move on to State.
